Hummels and Retirement
Whether it’s a temporary leave, a one off limited edition or production has simply ended; Hummels go into retirement as apposed to being discontinued. This means that they may return for a special occasion under a new Hum number extension.
Here’s 15 Such Hummels That Have Gone Into Retirement
1. Barnyard Hero
First modeled in 1948 by master sculptor Reinhold Unger.
Originaly made as 3.75″-4″ figurines.
More sizes were released in the mid 1950’s, 5.50″ and 5.75″-6″.
With the larger 195/I (5.75″-6″) being put into retirement in January of 1999.

2. Merry Wanderer
The fingurine with the most size variations.
In 1971 to commemorate Goebel’s 100th Anniversary, a 6 foot model was installed in front of the Goebel factory in Roedental.
A larger 8 foot model was unveiled in front of the Goebel Collectors’ Club’s (now The M.I. Hummel Club) former headquarters in Tarrytown, New York in 1987.

3. Strum Along
A 1995 M.I. Hummel Club members exclusive figurine that was not sold as an open edition.

4. Bird Watcher
Originally modelled by Gerhard Skrobekn in 1954 and assigned the number Hum 233.
This was the first figure Skrobek modelled after starting work at the Goebel factory in 1954.
First available for sale in the U.S. in 1979

5. Goose Girl
There are many size variations between the older and newer figurines, with the older models having grass between the geese.
Originally modelled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1936.

6. From My Garden
Modelled by master sculptor Helmut Fischer in 1994.
It was released in the U.S. market in 1997.
The smaller sized 795/O was put into retirement in December 2004

7. Close Harmony
First modelled in 1956 by master modeller Gerhard Skrobek who restyled it in 1962.
Though first released in the U.S. in 1963, copyright dates of 1955-1957 may be found.
The newer models returned to the original 1956 styling, with the figurines going into retirement in June 2002.

8. Just Resting
Modelled by master scultpor Reinhold Unger in 1938.
Its old name was: “Just Sittin-Girl”
The unusual example size 112/I was without the basket shown above.
This 112/I model was later retired in January 1999.

9. A Fair Measure
Introduced in the U.S. market in 1972.
Originally Modelled by master sculptor Helmut Wehite in 1956.
Restyled by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek in 1972.
Put into retirement in January 1999.

10. Friends
Master sculptor Reinhold Unger modelled this figurine in 1940.
The old names were: “Friendship” and “Good Friends”.
There is an extremely rare limited production in a reddish-brown terra cotta finish.

Released to the U.S. market in 2000.

No major variations of color, size or design have been recorded.

This painter got to retire in December 2004

I have a tall maiden with a basket in front of her and pumpkins at her feet. She has a marking underneath
M604 and. Black mark that looks like an F.
I don’t know what she is or if there is any value.
I have numerous Hummel figurines that my mom collected, including the 15 bells from 1978 to 1992 and numerous plates. My mom had, and gave to myself and my siblings the entire 25 plate series form 1971 to 1995. We are looking for the values of all so that we can sell them.
