Campbell Kids were first used as part of an advertisement for the Campbell Soup Company in 1904. The kids were created by Grace Drayton, a popular illustrator of the day. Campbell Kids were originally drawn as average boys and girls, but they later were dressed for special activities like sailing or football or working as police officers. The kids were used in magazine and newspaper ads until about 1951. They appeared again in ads in 1966; and in 1983 they were redesigned with a slimmer, more contemporary look.

Antique Canton China
Canton china can be identified by its three ring border; a narrow white rim at the extreme outer edge, surrounding a wider blue band decorated with diamond and asterisk looking designs, encompassing a continuous scalloped interior line filled with diagonal dashes referred to as the rain and cloud pattern.
Canton can be easily be distinguished from it derivative, transfer-decorated English Blue Willowware. Canton’s hand-painted decoration has no people on the bridge, no fencing, and usually, no birds.

Antique Celadon
Celadon is known as the aristocratic Oriental ancestor of the pottery family and takes its name from the elegant glaze developed by the master potters of China to duplicate their beloved jade. This exquisitely glazed Celadon was known only to the Far East until the 9th century A.D. when a few pieces found their way to Europe to be displayed with the most priceless treasures on the continent.

Antique Chalkwere
Chalkware was first made in America as early as 1768, it has come to be associated with Italian immigrants who peddled it in American cities in the mid-19th century. When unpainted, the surface resembled chalk. The hollow figures were made in a mold of gypsum, the main ingredient in plaster of paris. Because of their light weight, early pieces were weighted. The figures were cast in a two-piece mold by pouring the “batter” into the oiled mold. Rapid stirring quickly hardened it. The cured halves were cemented together and the rough edges smoothed before it was painted.

Antique Cloisonne
Cloisonne is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects, in recent centuries using vitreous enamel, and in older periods also inlays of cut gemstones, glass, and other materials. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné. The decoration is formed by first adding compartments to the metal object by soldering or adhering silver or gold wires or thin strips placed on their edges. These remain visible in the finished piece, separating the different compartments of the enamel or inlays, which are often of several colors.
